Ben Michels, SGM USA Retired, was the PSNCO of the 227th from Jul 66 to Jul 67. He has sent along a copy of a 227th “Award” from that time period and confirmed that the 227th Battalion call sign was “Tiger Tail”

Hello Mr. Michels
I’m writing on be half of my father. He was deployed on the USS BOXER to Vietnam in 1965 as S-3 Major with the 227th AHB. With his BC being Lt. Colonel Jack Cranford. He flew a lot that first year with Colonel Cranford, and became life long friends. I met him several times when I was young and he was a true character. My father deployed again in 1969 as the 227th AHB Battalion Commander, Lt. Colonel David Johnson. I know you weren’t deployed at the same times, but was wondering if you ever heard of my father’s and Cranford’s exploits.
Thank you, and best regards
Chad Johnson
